In the paper, the recent
research and development results in the fields of the computer aided design and
robotic assembly of rebar cages for prefabricated reinforced concrete elements
achieved by the research group Structures and Construction Information
Technology at the Institute of Structural Engineering, Earthquake Engineering
and Construction Information Technology are described. First, the entire process
of the design of a structure, which consists of geometrical and structural
modelling, structural analysis and proportioning of the elements, and handling
of the design documentation is discussed. In the second part of the paper, the
design and method of operation of a robot cell for the assembly of rebar cages
for beams and columns are described. The conclusion is that the tools and
methods of the modern information technologies could be efficiently used in the
