Močan
potres v japonskem mestu Kobe je 17. januarja 1995 zahteval 5200 življenj in
povzročil več sto milijard dolarjev posredne in neposredne škode. Zaradi
neustrezne konstrukcije in trhlega lesa so se masovno rušile stare lesene
družinske hiše.Slaba tla, oslabljena pritličja, nagla sprememba togosti po
višini, neustrezni detajli in zvari so bili razlog porušitve stavb, napačno
projektiranje in konstruiranje pa premostitvenih objektov. Ohrabruje dejstvo, da
se sodobne konstrukcije niso rušile.
The strong earthquake in the city
of Kobe in Japan of January 17, 1995 claimed 5200 lives and caused several
hundred billions U.S. dollars of direct and indirect damage. The poorest
behaviour of old wooden family houses is due to the unproper structural system
and rotten wood. The other main reasons of collapses were: bad soil conditions,
soft first stories, the sudden change of the structural system along the height
of RC buildings, poor details and welding in steel structures as well as
unproper design and construction of bridge columns and bearings. It is
encouraging, however, that there were no collapses of modern structures
