A
formulation of hyperelastic and elasto-plastic constitutive relations for shells
is discussed in this study. It is shown that many of the existing finite element
implementation oriented non-linear shell models have a common base. Many of the
models known from the literature are in fact just a special case of a general
model. As such, the conventional (the simplest possible) large deformation shell
theories are directly applicable only for small strain constitutive relations.
By assuming that the deformation process of relatively thin shells is
sufficiently well described by a family of conventional five-parameter theories,
the thin shell constitutive relations for small strain elasticity, small strain
elasto-plasticity and large strain elasticity are derived. In particular,
classical St. Venant-Kirchhoff model, Green's orthotropic model of the first
order, elasto-plastic model based on von Mises yield criterion and isotropic
hardening and Ogden material model are considered in the context of large
deformations of relatively thin shells [COBISS.SI-ID 74343]
