Formulation for the computation of dynamic response of flexible shells
is considered in this work. The underlying elasto-dynamic shell models is
obtained by following the principles of the first order large rotation shell
theory. Large rotations of the director field are described by singularity-free
rotation vector formulation. Time discretisation is performed by using an
implicit numerical time-integration scheme. The energy and momentum conserving
algorithm, which exactly preserves the fundamental constants of shell motion, is
used. Spatial discretisation is based on a mixed quadrilateral finite element.
Fully discrete weak form of the initial boundary value problem is consistently
linearised in order to achieve a quadratic rate of asymptotic convergence. The
main objective of the present work is to develope a framework for numericallly
stable simulation of long-term non-linear dynamic response of flexible
shell-like structures, which may be undergoing large deformations and large
overal motion. Numerical results are presented to illustrate the performance of
the mixed four noded shell element in conjunction with the adopted
time-integration algotithm [COBISS.SI-ID 69991]
