In a parametric study the influence of different modelling and
computing options on the seismic response of two multi-storey steel frame
structures have been studied. The structures were designed according to Eurocode
8 to resist ground motion of a high intensity. The investigated options and
parameters include the type of structural damping, P-[delta] effect, N-M
interaction in columns, initial forces due to vertical loading, length of
integration step, and computer code. The results of dynamic analyses of
structures subjected to various recorded ground motions, including those from
recent Kobe and Northridge earthquakes, indicate that the influence of all
investigated options and parameters is small and, consequently, not important in
seismic design. The influence of ground motion, which can not be accurately
predicted, is much larger than all other influences [COBISS.SI-ID 684641]
