Software agent and robot
technologies were brought to attention by their successful use on the Internet
and the Web. Both assist humans in performing tedious and routine tasks related
to information management, search and delivery. In combination with some other
Internet-related technologies, they have proven useful on the global
construction scope of a construction virtual library, on a narrower national
scope of regulation management and on the project level to manage documents. The
paper identifies the problems, introduces the technologies, and demonstrates how
they were used to build a virtual library of resources on the Web. The paper
concludes that in a client-server environment such as the Internet, intranet or
extranet, agent technology is an important building block of CIC environments
