The majority of the research related to the
computerization of building regulations has been focusing on the computerized
representation of the regulations. In this paper we focus on the distribution
and the interfacing. We attempt to use novel information technologies, such as
software agents and components for distributing, accessing and interfacing CAD
software with regulation processing software. A regulation-processing framework
is described. It is based on which in-clude the delivery of passive hypertext
and of active components that contain some of the logic embedded in the
regulations. The framework assumes a representation where a regulation is
modeled as a structured set of passive hypertext and active components. A part
of the implementation uses proprietary components, a part is built on the
DCOM/ActiveX model. The paper discusses the technology and archi-tectural
foundation. A prototype is under development. It integrates regulation
processing with a concurrent engineering environment
