Numerical analysis to the solution of non-linear dynamics
of flexible thin shells is considered. The elasto-dynamic shell model is
developed from the three-dimensional continuum by employing standard
assumptions of the first-order shear-deformation theories. Motion of the
shell-director is described by a singularity-free formulation based on the
rotation vector. Temporal discretisation is performed by an implicit
one-step second order accurate time-integration scheme. Energy and momentum
conserving algorithm is applied. The algorithm, which is, in fact, a
modified standard mid-point rule, exactly preserves the fundamental
constants of the shell motion and it assures unconditional numerical
stability. Spatial discretisation is based on the four-node isoparametric
elements. A particular attention is given to the consistent linearisation of
the weak form of the initial boundary value problem discretised in time and
in space, in order to achieve a quadratic rateof asymptotic convergence
typical for the Newton-Rapshon based solution procedures. An
unconditionally-stable time finite element formulation suitablefor the
long-term dynamic computations of flexible shell structure, which may
undergo large displacements, rotations and motions is here proposed. The
selected numerical examples presented illustrate the applicability of the
model |
