In recent years, the research group at the University
of Ljubljana has used the Eurocode 8 (EC8) for analysis and design of several
test building and bridge structures. In the paper the most important results for
three building and two bridge structures are summarized. In all cases,
comparative studies were made. The studies include, depending on the structure,
comparisons with the existing code in Slovenia and with US provisions,
comparisons of differentmethods of analysis, of different design intensities and
of different design ductilities. Based on the test examples, a conclusion can be
drawn that EC8 provides a capable environment for seismic design. However, some
of the deficiences of the EC8 have been identified. Some suggestions for the
