The
next step from separate tools used for computer aided design is the computer
integrated design - linking design procedures, computer programs and human
engineers using information technology. The foundation for integration of
various tools is a standardized model of the objects of integration. One ofthese
objects are building codes and regulations. They connect the existing codes and
the model of the designed structure. The paper will present a layered
representation of standards and their relation to the very much needed
standardized integrated design environments. Object oriented technology will be
used as an integrative element for algorithmic and declarative programs
