A
comprehensive, though relatively simple nonlinear method for seismic damage
analysis of structures and its application to RC bridges are described. It is
called the N2 method, where N stands for Nonlinear analysis and 2 for two
mathematical models. The method was initially influenced by the Q-model
developed by Saiidi and Sozen. The basic features of the method are: two
separate mathematical models, the response spectrum approach and the pushover
analysis. The N2 method can be used for the seismic evaluation of both existing
and newly designed structures. From the first version, published in 1987, the
method has been gradually developed to its present version. Originally, it has
been used for buildings. Recently, its applicability has been extended to
bridges. Applications of the method are, for the time being, restricted to the
analyses of planar structural models [COBISS.SI-ID 401761]
