In this paper we discuss a
nonlinear shell model accounting for through-the-thickness stretching and direct
use of 3d constituive equations. In such formulation the normal strain in the
thickness direction should be varying at least lineary through the thickness.
This can be achieved either by assuming a quadratic distribution of
displacements through the shell thickness, which leads to a 7-parameter shell
model, or by enriching the through-the-thickness strain of conventional shell
model by using enhanced assumed strain method or incompatible models method,
which lead to a 6-parameter model. In this work we focus on two questions. First
we study a difference between a 7-parameter model (with 3 displacements of the
mid-surface, 2 additively updated rotations of the shell director and 2
through-the-thickness parameters) with exact expression for the
Green-Lagrangestrains and a 7-parameter model where usual simplifications are
carried out by neglecting certain terms. The former of these two models can be
developed without difficulty mainly by using the symbolic manipulation.
