The current procedures to design structures are
strongly based on the observation of damage after the earthquakes. Pictures and
slides can provide this kind of information. Realising the fact that information
technology (IT) offers great opportunity to distribute and organise such
material, a hypermedia tool based on digital slides was developed. The core of
this earthquake engineering information system (EASY) consist of 500 digital
imagesshoving damage after some major earthquakes, including the 1979 Montenegro
earthquake. All slides are commented in detail, classified and labelled with
keywords. The system is available on the Web (htp:/www.ikpir.fgg.uni-lj.si/EASY)
and on the CD-ROM. At the present, EASY is believed to be the only IT supported
service to give full information about the consequences of the Montenegro
earthquake. Sample sessions with EASY are used to demonstrate the functions of
the system as well as to review some lessons learnt after the earthquake
