V okolici Izmeta v Turčiji, ki ga je 17.8.1999 prizadel potres, so močni
potresi pogosti in pričakovani, zato je veliko žrtev in ogromna škoda v deželi z
razvitim potresnim inženirstvom razočaranje. Vendar je imela ponekod zakonodaja
kaj malo vpliva na gradbeno prakso. Tako smo lahko ugotovili mnoge znane vzroke
porušitev, kot so mehka etaža, neduktilni detajli, šibka stremena, slabo
sidranje in utekočinjanje tal. Na novo smo se največ naučili iz porušitev
številnih neduktilnih armiranobetonskih okvirov, zapolnjenih z opečnimi votlaki
Strong earthquakes are frequent and expected in the vicinity of Izmet,
which was struck by a devastating earthquake on 17 August 1999. The numerous
victims and extensive damage came as a surprise in a country with developed
earthquake engineering. However, the codification of earthquake-resistant design
apparently had little influence on construction practices. The well known causes
of structure failure, such as soft stories, non-ductile details, weak stirrups,
insufficient anchorage and liquefaction, were identified. New knowledge has been
obtained from the analysis of numerous collapses of non-ductile reinforced
concrete frames with hollow clay tile infills [COBISS.SI-ID 1437537]
