The paper explores the possibilities to use a High-Performance
Fiber Reinforced Concretes (HPFRCs) for design of seismic resistant
cost-effective and durable infrastructural systems. Composite frame buildings
are made through selective use of different HPFRCs: Slurry Infiltrated Mat
Concrete (SIMCON), Slurry IInfiltrated Fiber Concrete (SIFCON) and High Strength
- Lightweight Aggregate Fiber Reinforced Concrete (HS-LWA FRC) which further
minimizes dead load, seismic loads, and to eliminates the need for transverse
reinforcement. To evaluate seismic behavior of such HPFRC-based composite
frames, seismic response of a four story composite frame is compared to the
response of a four-story RC building tested in theELSA laboratory at Ispra.
While the ongoing research is developing an entire composite-frame system,
current paper focuses on the effect of using only composite beam members.
Therefore, same (conventional) RC columns used in the RC buildings tested in
Ispra are used in the composite building. Pushover analysis and nonlinear
dynamic analysis results for the artificially generated accelerogram demonstrate
substantially higher strength, approximately 20% smaller maximal top
displacement and higher when composite beams are used [COBISS.SI-ID 1315681]
