Earthquakes,
which can not be assigned to any known fault, may be treated as background
seismicity. According to current geological and seismological knowledge, all
seismic activity in Slovenia is considered as background seismicity. To handle
it, spatially smoothed seismicity approach seems to be particularly suitable. We
extended the approach which is based only on the earthquake catalogue by the
statistical linkage of the earthquake population to the fault population. To
develop spatial seismicity models, two stage smoothing procedure is used. The
first stage is a circular Gaussian smoothing. If appropriate seismotectonic
model is not available, an equivalent single-stage circular Gaussian smoothing
can be performed. As end results peak ground acceleration (PGA) maps of Slovenia
for a 475-year return period for two-stage and for an equivalent single-stage
procedure are constructed and compared [COBISS.SI-ID 1266785]
