Povzetek: In the first part of the paper an overview of the characteristics of some recent earthquakes is presented. Special attention is paid to the earthquakes which have occured during the last ten years in Southern Europe. In the second part of the paper some results obtained at the EK University in Ljubljana within the scope of research on behaviour of reinforced concrete buildings subjected to earthquakes are given. In both parts the implications of research findings on design procedures for RC building structures are discussed [COBISS.SI-ID 1034593]
